Rappahannock County, a beautiful, unspoiled enclave in the foothills of the Shenandoah National Park, with Washington, Virginia as the county seat. Located one hour west of Washington DC and Dulles International Airport, on the "morning side" of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Rappahannock is a unique and eclectic blend of farmers, artists, musicians, retirees and fascinating people. Strong zoning regulations provide a 25 acre per home density in agricultural areas. The county adjoins the National Park with spectacular sunsets over the Blue Ridge Mountains. Seven mountain rivers enter the county from the Blue Ridge.
Our Rappahannock Association for Arts in the Community ( RAAC ) offers an annual tour of artist's studios in the height of the colorful Fall season. The local Theatre at Washington, Va is a great favorite and is regionally know for stimulating jazz, piano recitals, programs by The Smithsonian Chamber Players and unique appearances by favorites such as satirist Mark Russell.
The citizens of Rapahannock are environmentally conscious as evidenced by the The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection (RLEP), Rappahannock County Conservation Alliance (RCCA), Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) and Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL). The county has over 22,000 acres protected by scenic easement. We have an extremely active Lions Club and other service organizations.
Adjoining and closely associated counties include Madison and Fauquier. These are similar both geographically and culturally, with Blue Ridge views, rolling farmland, and numerous streams and mountain rivers.
Kaye and I urge you to call or email us. We enjoy helping others find that special place in paradise, a country home, farm, estate or land. This is our home and we love it. As an old friend used to say, "Y'all come, but not too many of you!".
